London Lions snatch victory in the 4th instalment of the tournament

Rocketing into its fourth year, the Gayvis Cup this year was presented by Northern Aces. Having acquired d a brand new look and feel, this year the tournament featured just three teams battling it out over a cold and wet January weekend for the championship title.

With a raft of familiar faces from Northern Aces and the London Lions, this year the Glam Slammers were a collaboration of national UK LGBTQ tennis clubs, with representation from the Dundee Deuces, Weegie Whackers, London Lobsters and the Bristol Breakers.

"The fact that we had people travelling from all over the UK to join us, some of whom are only spectating, just goes to show how successful this tournament has become and what an impact it has made."

This year, the format had mixed up slightly with teams playing pro-sets to eight and every game counting towards their cumulative team score. Every. Game. Counts.

After managing to secure the win last year, Northern Aces lost out narrowly to the London Lions by just 5 games, with a final score of 279 to 274.

"This was the best one yet. I can't wait for next year, I feel like I'm on a tennis come down."

Special awards went to William Chadwick from Northern Aces for 'Person of the Match', representing solid play and fierce competition. Marc James-Hutcheon of the Dundee Deuces secured the 'Best Sportsperson' award, encapsulating everything it means to be kind on court. These two players were chosen by their peers for representing the best values in inclusive tennis.

Tournament organiser Andy Aldridge, assisted by Neil McArthur and David Bond, smashed it out of the park putting on a fabulous tournament with all teams involved showcasing how collaboration can make waves to support inclusive tennis all around the UK.

A sparkling weekend of tennis, featuring friendly rivalries and new friendships, the Gayvis Cup kicks off the 2025 season. With the GLTA season heating up, we expect to see many familiar faces on the tour ahead of the Manchester GLTA ('Kiss My Ace') which takes place in July this year.

Thank you to all who attending and made the effort to join us for this weekend of tennis. We can't wait to have you all back next year to do it all again.
